Why BreakthePill?
Why not? It will anyway dissolve in your stomach. So you might as well break it!
No, it’s not what I mean to say. What does name BreakthePill mean?
I see. There is more than one way to interpret “BreakthePill”.
Today in Indian pharma industry, strategies and campaigns that are followed by most of the players are almost identical. No wonder, everyone is getting almost identical results. BreakthePill conveys that if you expect different results, your strategy and marketing too needs to be different.
BreakthePill denotes the mindset to challenge (and then try to break) every assumption we make.
There are many who believe that pharma industry is quite typical. Many things that marketers can do in FMCG or in other industries are not possible in pharma. BreakthePill stands for the spirit of trying to break every possible pharma rule.
Lastly, BreakthePill could also mean ‘out-of-the-pill-thinking’ (We had enough of Bono and his out-of-pill thinking’, after all, we all need some change J)
Is it not the fact that pharma marketer has to operate with lots of restrictions? How much exposure of pharma industry do you have?
To get the answer, I will suggest you to read ‘About Miliind’.
Is BreakthePill, a pill for all?
There is no single pill that can be consumed universally.
What will this pill do to me?
What BreakthePill will do to you depends upon who you are.
Are you a pharma marketer who constantly strives to make your brand stand out?
Whether you are a brand manager or a marketing manager or business head, you are a marketer. BreakthePill will add new dimensions to your thinking that will help you build big brands and will be your constant companion in your journey towards excellence in marketing.
Are you from sales side looking for cutting edge over your competition?
Deeper understanding of the marketing will no doubt bring about manifold increase in your effectiveness.
Do you aspire to enter into PMT (marketing team)?
BreakthePill could be just the gate pass you are looking for. Once you achieve your first milestone of being part of marketing, BreakthePill will continue to be your mentor.
Are you a management student searching hard for some resource related to pharma marketing?
You have reached the right place. BreakthePill can be your one-stop-shop related to pharma marketing and strategy.
Are you a marketer from some other industry?
Throughout my marketing career, the real insights, creative triggers and some wow ideas came to me only when I looked outside pharma. Same holds good for everyone. After all, the fundamentals don’t change.
Is there anything more in it?
Are you asking for a bonus offer? I am not a great believer of it. However, this time I will make an exception. You indeed have a bonus: Putting your career on fast track. You will discover that daily dose of BreakthePill will have revitalizing effect on your career.
You are talking of ‘taking’ a pill, whereas the name of the blog is ‘breakthePill’. So what do you suggest, should I ‘take’ it or ‘break’ it?
Both. First you need to ‘break’ it before you ‘take’ it.
Is the pill sugarcoated?
I am afraid, it’s not. At times you may even find it a little unpalatable.
Are there any side effects of this pill?
No serious side effects are reported. At times you may experience little pain due to breaking of certain beliefs you might have held for a long period. There are chances of you feeling little dizzy when you find me presenting completely opposing ideas and showing merits in both of them.
How often should I pop up the pill (of course after breaking it)?
As soon as it is delivered. To ensure that you always get it fresh, I suggest you subscribe to the newsletter here. Alternatively you can subscribe to RSS feeds.
Are there any contraindications?
Only one contraindication: A mind that is not open to new ideas.
Is there any way I can get faster results from the pill?
Yes, there are many ways to increase the efficacy of the pill. Take out time to contemplate on every blog post. Be the part of interaction with other marketers by posting your comments and by sharing it on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. And most importantly, by putting it into practice as fast as you can.

THE HEIGHT OF INSANITY IS
” TO DO THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND EXPECT A DIFFERENT RESULT EVERYTIME”
“IF YOU WANT TO ACHEIVE SOMETHING WHICH YOU HAVE NEVER ACHIEVED BEFORE, YOU MSUT DO SOMETHING, WHICH YOU HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE”
The above quote perhaps goes well with the current pharma marketing. Unfortunately our pharma marketing has been MUNDANE

Having worked for 36 years at all levels and across all class of indian cities and intracted with all class of Doctors, chemists and Pharma professional I have come to conclusion that the believe of the majority of associates that our industry is exclusive and operates under defined processes is not TRUE. May be we have been following and delevering the desired results by following the beaten path for the last so many years and are afraid/ apprehensive to apply/ adopt any change.
Time is out to think beyond the boundry ( By breaking the pill) on one hand and on the other engage and invite the comment/ suggestion of younger lot in the organisation for all time high performance.
The platform of Break the Pill is going to assist/ coordinate relentlessly to many professional at all level.
I wish Good luck.

I do think the same…for a startegy to be successful…you need to think out of the box, something innovative which is different from the common so called startegies implemented by most of the pharma companies. Gone are the days when strategy meant inputs, samples and calls planned and there frequency. Also important factor in startegy and product being successful is the customer selection. A brilliant startegy focussed on wrong customers can kill the product.

Yes Ashish, I fully agree with you. Differentiation is the mantra…and also the right customer selection as mentioned by you.

“Customer mind entry through mind conversion/memory hook with a relevant, yet significantly different, Audio Visual multi modal communications with MR mind management with training” is what is my mantra for Brand success ,,, ofcourse with repeated ,consistent ,yet differentiated customer mind impactions. Here the KEY is differentiation with meaningful relevance and high degree of memorability that should enhance customer mind share of the Brand.
Your initiative is the need of the hour especially to formula marketing managers.

DIFFERENTIATE OR DIE. We need to be at it daily and purposefully.

I am completing 33 years in the Healthcare industry split between the Indian subcontinent and West Africa. I still feel that there is a lot to learn. Many years were spent doing things the way “you were told to do”. Creativity was there but few takers. Thinking differently and interacting with people from the industry could be just the right prescription to the aging but mature brain. Well done Milind and wish you all success.

Good to look through your creative pursuits Miliind. It’s an innovative effort focused to share creative wisdom of practicing professionals. Look forward to read inspiring point of views…
I would opine, for an on going business the challenge is to identify, understand and comprehend the strengths that exists within. Look for the next logical step forward, there could be number of options available, therefore evaluate and execute the most doable step to consolidate the strength further to get aligned better with the market dynamics. This ‘alignment’ will eventually become a unique innovation and lead to newer success milestones.
It is believed that more one can understand the past results (in an unbiased manner) more clearly one can set the future goals. Goal clarity brings focus and ultimately helps in arriving at the way forward… Strategy and Action Plan.

“Build on your strengths, look for the most doable option that gets best aligned with market dynamics” I totally agree with your Sanjoy. With regards to the past results, I am reminded of a quote: “Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it”
Thanks for your good words, I am glad you liked it!

Hi Mr Milind,
Logically we have different dimensions about the perception, even in any kind of business system, either you are a stockholder or a stakeholder does not creat the value until or unless you draw a outline of figure of assumptions, and this assumption is the “Critical To Quality” i.e.CTQ, which i learnt in my career to understand QFD i.e Quality Function Design of any business process.
Though any strategy works well but important to understand the objective, whether it is aligned with organization’s objective or not , if yes then we scratch brain about the IC i.e internal customer and EC i.e external customer and their needs; are upto the maximum level or is there any constraints to define the measureable analysis of business system.
It could be a better discussion someother day of life, herewith I should say and finish after with that
Strategy can be made, work, balance, form, storm altogether but always put assumptions in your pocket if norm could acheived.
Many Thanks, it were nice words to read.

Thanks Mr Sharma, I think in few lines you have summarized the essence of a robust business planning process. There is much deeper meaning in these lines, and as you have said, to understand it fully, calls for a separate discussion. Surely, everyone has to learn a lot from your comments.
